We’ve now twice singled out Aaron Judge as a key to the Yankees lineup, and twice, he’s failed to produce. It’s been a rough postseason for the presumptive AL MVP, and it only got worse with an 0-for-3 night that included Judge’s seventh strikeout of the series (though he did walk in his final plate appearance). Judge is 1-for-12 this series, and has a .580 OPS in the postseason. The Yankees have had a lot of problems in this series. Judge is perhaps the most surprising of them.

Going back to 2021 with the Braves, Freeman has homered in five straight World Series games, tying George Springer (2017-19) for the longest such streak in baseball history. He has one fewer extra-base hit (four) in the World Series than the Yankees (four). Keep in mind Freeman had zero extra base hits in the NLDS and NLCS. He looks like Freddie Freeman for the first time this postseason.
Between Freeman’s ankle, Ohtani’s shoulder, all the starting pitcher injuries, and who knows what else, the Dodgers are far from 100% this postseason. And yet, they are one win away from a World Series. The roster is deep enough that others picked up the slack, and they’re well-coached too. The Dodgers are inevitable, even with Freeman and Ohtani hobbled.
The Yankees aren’t executing on offense. The Dodgers are, and they have dictated everything on both sides. It’s not over — because it’s baseball — but it’s hard to see the Dodgers losing four in a row. They are locked in.
With one out in the sixth inning, Jake Cousins hit Gavin Lux. Lux then stole second base against Jose Trevino, who we mentioned has struggled to throw out runners this season, and came around to score on an Enrique Hernandez single up the middle.

Game 2 world series
After the Dodgers edged the New York Yankees in an unbelievable World Series opener on Friday night, they picked up where they left off in a 4-2 Game 2 victory but now await the status of superstar Shohei Ohtani after he exited because of an apparent shoulder injury. Following the game, manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder and will undergo further testing Sunday, but his strength and range of motion are good.
Hernández and Freeman are the second set of Dodgers to hit back-to-back homers in the World Series, joining Pedro Guerrero and Steve Yeager in Game 5 in 1981. That, of course, came against the Yankees as well. Dating back to 2021, Freeman now has a four-game homer streak in the postseason. Only George Springer (five games from 2017-19) has a longer streak.
The Dodgers outbid several teams (including the Yankees) to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the three-time reigning MVP in Japan, and it was for moments like this: to shut down one of the highest scoring offenses in baseball in a World Series game. The regular season is important, for sure, but games like Game 2 is why the Dodgers gave Yamamoto a record $325 million contract.
Rodón allowed 31 homers during the regular season, the second most in baseball, and 21 of the 31 came off his fastball. That was the second-most homers off any pitch type in MLB (Shota Imanaga allowed 22 homers on his fastball). In Game 2, the Dodgers hit all three homers off Rodón’s fastball. He threw 38 heaters and the Dodgers swung and missed once. They were on him.
The decision to pinch-hit Trevino against the lefty Vesia says more about New York’s thin bench than it does Trevino. Trevino, the backup catcher, hit .189/.282/.344 against lefties this year. The other option was top prospect Jasson Domínguez, a switch-hitter who is significantly better against righties. He slashed .185/.264/.246 against lefties in Triple-A.
